I've tried to build stage3 with -Wleading-whitespace=blanks -Wtrailing-whitespace=blank -Wno-error=leading-whitespace=blanks -Wno-error=trailing-whitespace=blank added to STRICT_WARN and that expectably resulted in about 2744 unique trailing whitespace warnings and 124837 leading whitespace warnings when excluding *.md files (which obviously is in big part a generator issue). Others from that are generator related, I think those need to be solved later. The following patch just fixes up the easy case (trailing whitespace), which could be easily automated: for i in `find . -name \*.h -o -name \*.cc -o -name \*.c | xargs grep -l '[ ]$' | grep -v testsuite/`; do sed -i -e 's/[ ]*$//' $i; done I've excluded files which I knew are obviously generated or go FE. Is there anything else we'd want to avoid the changes? Due to patch size, I've split it between gcc/ part (this patch) and rest (include/, libiberty/, libgcc/, libcpp/, libstdc++-v3/). 2024-10-24 Jakub Jelinek <jakub@redhat.com> gcc/ * lra-assigns.cc: arithmetic. For example, if adding two longs and converting to an

For the operations handled here, such truncation distribution

is always safe.

It is desirable in these cases:

1) when truncating down to full-word from a larger size

2) when truncating takes no work.
3) when at least one operand of the arithmetic has been extended

(as by C's default conversions). In this case we need two conversions
if we do the arithmetic as already requested, so we might as well
truncate both and then combine. Perhaps that way we need only one.
Note that in general we cannot do the arithmetic in a type

shorter than the desired result of conversion, even if the operands
are both extended from a shorter type, because they might overflow
if combined in that type. The exceptions to this--the times when

two narrow values can be combined in their narrow type even to

make a wider result--are handled by "shorten" in build_binary_op. */
